About Vacord Screen Printing

Stuart Brent started screen printing as a hobby in summer of 2006, primarily to make shirts for his noise band "Mother." He enjoyed it and continued doing some printing. When his seasonal jobs ran out in the fall he decided to pursue screen printing further and started taking on custom jobs. Starting on an ironing board with a Speedball screen printing kit, he moved into a warehouse in less than a year, teaching the craft to himself as he progressed, learning from internet forums, friends, conferences, and trial and error.

Vacord Screen Printing specializes in small run orders, having very low minimums and affordable prices in all order sizes, making screen printing services available for everyone. Only water-based inks are used, as those provide the brightest results with the softest hand and the smallest environmental footprint.

In October of 2007, Stuart got a sample of Matsui water-based discharge from Westix and tried it on a simple design. When he printed it, the design looked like it was just an oily residue on the shirt. When he cured the shirt and the ink hit around 275 degrees he watched the discharge activate and the ink remove the dye from the shirt, starting in the middle and spreading outward. Excited, fascinated, and hooked he kept experimenting with it.

Today Stuart thinks discharge has such nice and interesting results that he recommends it to clients and customers, and also wants to spread the word about discharge, which is why this site was created. It is another niche for Vacord to get into, offering both discharge and small-run orders.
